In order to make it simpler for customers who transact with businesses to pay for purchases directly in the chat, WhatsApp, the messaging service from Meta, announced on Wednesday the expansion of its payments service in India. Customers will now have a choice of UPI apps, including competing digital payment options, as well as credit and debit cards.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-193009″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-uttam-singh-a-gadar-composer-disputes-anil-sharmas-assertions-images-2023-09-21t18.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com uttam singh a gadar composer disputes anil sharmas assertions images 2023 09 21t18″ width=”1233″ height=”603″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-uttam-singh-a-gadar-composer-disputes-anil-sharmas-assertions-images-2023-09-21t18.jpg 321w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-uttam-singh-a-gadar-composer-disputes-anil-sharmas-assertions-images-2023-09-21t18-150×73.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1233px) 100vw, 1233px” title=”What Will Change For You With WhatsApp Payments Now Available in India?
CEO and creator of Meta Mark Zuckerberg said that when it comes to companies and consumers using messaging, India is setting the global standard.

Who in India Can Use WhatsApp Payments?

In India, WhatsApp has more than 500 million users, but authorities there have limited the number of users who may use the in-app WhatsApp Pay service to only 100 million. Customers who purchase on WhatsApp may also pay through well-known services like Google Pay, Paytm, and Walmart’s PhonePe, but only after leaving the app.

According to a blog post by Meta, payments made via those competing services—as well as any others that use UPI—will now be accepted directly inside WhatsApp. There will also be new credit and debit card in-app choices available.

According to a Meta spokeswoman, there is no limits on the number of users who may trade with companies on WhatsApp using the other ways, however the number of WhatsApp Pay users in India will continue to be limited.

Benefits

People won’t need to visit a website, launch another app, or make a cash payment in person in order to add products to a basket and submit a payment using the payment method of their choosing, such as WhatsApp or other payment methods including all UPI applications, debit and credit cards, and more.

Eligibility for the WhatsApp Payments Service

You need a bank account with a bank that accepts UPI in order to utilize Payments, as well as a phone number with the Indian country code. You must use the same phone number for payments made via WhatsApp that is associated with your bank account.

More is coming

The new payment facilities will eventually be accessible to any Indian firm that use WhatsApp’s business platform, which mostly caters to big businesses.

With partners Razorpay and PayU, WhatsApp said that “paying for something can be as easy as sending a message.”

A number of new tools have been introduced to “speed up how to get things done with businesses in a WhatsApp chat,” including WhatsApp Flows and the Meta verified badge.

According to Zuckerberg, Meta has kept up innovation with its message formats, group chat features, and broadcast channels.

With the help of the new WhatsApp Flows feature, companies can offer their consumers richer in-chat experiences like making reservations, placing delivery orders, or checking in for flights straight via WhatsApp. Businesses will have access to a variety of adaptable, ready-made building blocks that will make it simple for them to create rich, customizable experiences for their consumers.

According to Zuckerberg, WhatsApp Flows enables companies to design customized chat thread experiences.
