Mitchell Johnson Fired From His Australia vs. Pakistan Commentary Position Amid David Warner Scandal

Share

A sour dispute surrounds former Australia teammates David Warner and Mitchell Johnson at the moment. Johnson said in his essay that Warner was chosen for the Test series against Pakistan due to his retirement plans after the series, not his performance. The former Australia bowler also said that George Bailey, the head selector, was influencing his selection process since he was too close to the players. The first Test in Pakistan was supposed to see the two former teammates square off after the scandal, but it doesn’t seem like that will happen anymore.

Johnson has already said that he will be a member of the Triple M commentary staff throughout the Test series. His name was absent from the verified list of commentators that the corporation unveiled on Tuesday, however. Legendary stars like Wasim Akram, Mark Taylor, and Merv Hughes were on it.

Two days after his outburst at current Australia opener David Warner, a former teammate, Mitchell Johnson disclosed the motivation behind it.

“Hero’s sendoff”? Warner doesn’t deserve one, according to Johnson, who took aim at the Australian opener and rekindled the ball-tampering scandal. The Pakistan series is Warner’s last one.

The 42-year-old had also criticised Australia’s head selector Geroge Bailey for sticking with Warner despite his recent bad performances.

Johnson said that he received a text message from Warner earlier this year after his essay in which he supported the southpaw’s spouse’s position on the team.

Johnson said that the ball-tampering controversy and Warner’s “quite personal” text message were the driving forces for his West Australian essay, even if he did not go into great detail about them.

Dave sent me a very private note. I attempted to call him and try to speak to him about it; I’ve always been willing to listen. When I finished playing, I knew that I was honest with the men. In an interview with The Mitchell Johnson Cricket Show, the former Australia bowler remarked, “Just come and speak to me if I’m in the media and writing things or saying things that you don’t like.”

“Until now, it was never a personal matter. I think that part of the reason I wrote the piece was also motivated by this. It undoubtedly played a role. I won’t mention some of the things that were expressed in that. If Dave wants to speak about it, I believe he should say it. He stated, “There were some disappointing things in there, and to be honest, it was pretty bad.”
