With one game remaining in the three-match series, India lost the second Twenty20 International against South Africa on Tuesday, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. At Gqeberha’s St George’s Park, Proteas Men captain Aiden Markram chose to field first after winning the toss.

India had the worst possible start, losing their two openers in the first two overs (Yashvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill) for ducks. Before leaving the field after making a solid 29 runs off of 20 balls, Tilak Varma played a captain’s knock of 58 off of 36 balls.

The most impressive batsman for India, however, was Rinku Singh, who hit nine fours and two massive sixes in his unbeaten 68 off only 39 balls.

At the stadium, one of these sixes cracked the glass of the media box. Rinku danced down the track and smacked the off-spinner for a six down the ground on the final ball of Markram’s 19th over. It struck the media box’s glass. Rajal Arora, a member of the BCCI media staff, posted images of the shattered glass in the press box on X (now Twitter).

Rinku also achieved his maiden fifty in T20Is and international cricket. He had played several brilliant innings at home against Australa, but this was the knock when he eventually put in more time on the field and achieved the milestone. “Rinku Singh!,” wrote former Indian cricketer and analyst Sanjay Manjrekar on X, expressing his admiration for the Aligarh-born player who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Whoa! What a remarkable inning! not aimlessly, but with deliberate shots. More fours than sixes. This, in comparison to those who merely want to get sixes, ensures consistency more.”

KKR wrote “Rinku was here” below the image of the shattered glass that they shared on social media. In fact, the 25-year-old made his impression at Gqeberha’s St. George’s Park. After this game, when reporters and broadcasters go into the press box, they will always think about Rinku as they pass by the spot where the shattered glass used to be. India will be hoping Rinku breaks many more records with the bat and crashes some more glasses.
